A small Enterprise situated in Chandni Chowk, New Delhi. They sell 3 products, Fragrance herbal Mixture, Fresh oil and Sandalwood Powder.
Hari Kishan Om Prakash was started by Lala Harikishanji Maheshwari in 1935. They get customers from all over India and also Nepal. For new customers they rely on word of mouth. The previous logo consists of a havan kund and the registered name Hari Om which was hand painted by a local painter in 1992.
Secondary Research
Within the main street of the market, four different religious buildings coexist harmoniously i.e. Jain Mandir, Gurudwara, Church and Masjid. Chandni Chowk is divided into a number of smaller markets (Fatehpuri Market, Dariba Kalan, Ballimaran, Kinari Bazaar, Moti Bazaar and Meena Bazaar), each of which is known for selling a particular commodity.
Primary Research
I visited small businesses like: Gulabsingh Jorimal( Perfumes, soap, etc), Segal’s Pharmacy ( Homeopathic medicine), Guru Harnarayan Painting (Signboards), Kanwarji’s Shop (Snacks).
I finally decided to work with Hari Kishan Om Prakash because I saw a potential improvement in the company. The other thing I noticed and attracted me was that they didn’t have a signboard, which I believe is a must for every shop. They get customers from all over India and also Nepal. For new customers they rely on word of mouth. The previous logo consists of a havan kund and the registered name Hari Om which was hand painted by a local painter in 1992.
SWOT & Brand Prism
He has approximately 7 compitetors in the same market, out of which 3 are Satguru Badam Rogan, Himani International and Mahavar Sons. In the bigger market, companies like Khadi, Patanjali and Hamdard give him competition. The SWOT showed that the main Opportunities for the company are to build a brand Identity, look for investors and aim for a larger market.
Identity/ Branding
After the research many paper Iterations were created out of which only 4 were finally digitised. The inspiration for the iterations were taken from understanding of what the company sells, the existing brand identity and keeping in mind how to make an aging company more relavent today. In other words keep the old but move towards the new. You can see in the iterations that I have used Drops of oil, Flowers and also played with Devnagari Alphabets.
The Final Logo has a lotus in it because the flower is a symbol of purity which the company stands for and guarentees. The triangle shaped petals were used because the company deals in 3 main products which makes the company what it is, just like the way 3 sides of a triangle makes a triangle. The Hindi letter in the center of the logo stands for the first letter of the shops name as well as the name of the founder of the shop.
Print Design
Stationery was made for the company with the new logo. Along with which two different sign boards with the new logo, location and phone number were made according to the build of the shop. It has the Logo and the address with phone number written in 2 Languages that i.e Hindi & English. A packaging option was also created for the Oil. A simple sticker was created so it could be used on any kind of bottle, making it easier for the shopkeeper to use. The last thing that was created was a news paper advertisement. The advertisement sold different products of Hari Kishan Om Prakash. It was created keeping in mind the fact that freshly extracted oil is a luxury product.
